Apartment 404B

Psychological Horror Investigation Game

A narrative-driven horror experience where players investigate disappearances inside a decaying apartment complex, only to realise they may not leave.

Atmospheric storytelling. Environmental puzzles. Psychological tension.

The Challenge

Modern indie horror games often rely on jump scares over meaningful tension, leading to short-lived engagement and predictable gameplay experiences.

↓ Over-reliance on scripted scares
↓ Limited player agency in investigation
↓ Weak narrative immersion in many indie title

The Solution

We designed a psychological horror experience focused on tension, atmosphere, and player-driven discovery.

Instead of relying on jump scares, Apartment 404B builds fear through environmental storytelling, sound design, and uncertainty.

Players must investigate, interpret clues, and piece together events, all while the environment subtly changes around them.

The result is a slow-burn horror experience that keeps players engaged through curiosity and unease rather than shock.

Investigation System

→ Explore rooms, examine objects, and uncover hidden clues to progress.

Enviromental Puzzles

→ Solve layered puzzles integrated into the environment and narrative.

Narrative Discovery

→ Piece together the story through documents, visuals, and interactions.

Gameplay

Players enter Apartment 404B to investigate a series of disappearances.

As they explore:
– rooms reveal hidden clues
– environments shift subtly
– the line between reality and illusion blurs

The deeper they go, the more the apartment begins to react.
